Combi, system and conventional boilers
Combi boilers heat water on demand with no cylinder, which suits flats and smaller houses with one bathroom. They are the most common unit we repair, and their most frequent faults are diverter valves, plate heat exchangers furred with scale, and low-pressure lockouts.
System boilers work with an unvented or vented cylinder and suit family homes where two showers might run at once. Repairs here often involve the pump, the three-port valve, the cylinder thermostat or the expansion vessel rather than the boiler itself, which is why a proper diagnosis matters before parts get ordered.
Conventional (heat-only) boilers with a loft feed tank still exist across older Wycombe housing stock. They are perfectly serviceable, and where a household wants to keep good mains-independent stored hot water we will say so rather than pushing a combi conversion that does not suit the property.
